Rosslare to Fishguard Ferry: Times, Fares & SailRail
Three and a half hours from Wexford to west Wales, twice a day each way, year-round. It is also the best rail-connected crossing on the Irish Sea — the train platform at Fishguard is inside the port — with one catch that catches people out on the evening sailing.

Times published by Stena Line for 2026 and confirmed against the operator’s own printed fare tables. Note the check-in deadlines differ by direction: 30 minutes at Rosslare, a full hour at Fishguard. The 01:30 sailing is scheduled at four hours rather than three and a half.

Fares from Stena Line’s published 2026 tariff, checked July 2026, inclusive of taxes and environmental charges. Sterling fares apply from Fishguard (£38 foot passenger, £165–£215 car and driver). Stena also advertises a promotional “from €179.50” car-and-driver rate that sits below its own published tariff — treat it as a promotion rather than the standard fare. Cheapest crossings are midweek on the 19:30; dearest are Saturdays in the 26 June to 30 August peak.

Continuing your journey
- SailRail through Fishguard is the strongest rail-and-ferry product on the Irish Sea. Transport for Wales sells a single ticket from any British station to Rosslare Europort, with advance fares from around £46.70.
- The standard connection works westbound: Swansea 11:07 → Fishguard Harbour ~12:52 → the 14:00 sailing. About 90 minutes from Swansea, two and a half to three hours from Cardiff with a change.
- Bicycles travel free on both train and ferry when booked with a SailRail ticket.
- At the Irish end, Rosslare Europort has its own station on the Dublin Connolly line — see the Dublin to Rosslare Europort train, plus buses 387 from Wexford and 370 from Waterford.
Do you need to book?
Fares move with the season and the day of the week, and the difference is large — a car and driver can cost €195 midweek in the low season or €249 on a Saturday in high summer.
Season bands run 5 January to 22 March and 1 October to 17 December (low), 23 March to 25 June and 31 August to 30 September (mid), and 26 June to 30 August plus 18 December to 3 January (peak).
The departure point
Both ends of this route are, in effect, railway property — which explains why the rail connections are unusually good.
- Rosslare Europort is at the end of the N25, 20 minutes from Wexford, an hour and twenty from Waterford and about two and a quarter hours from Dublin. Terminal open 06:30–21:30. Parking €5 a day or €25 a week, 350 spaces, 2.2 m height limit.
- Fishguard Harbour is a mile north-west of Fishguard town at Goodwick. The station sits inside the port, and Richards Bros buses reach the town in about eight minutes. Parking from £5 for twelve hours.
- Rosslare Europort is operated by Iarnród Éireann, the national railway — the only Irish commercial port outside the Harbours Acts.
Worth knowing
The evening arrival has no train
Since the 2023 timetable recast, the connecting service leaves Fishguard before the 23:00 ferry berths. Arrive on the 19:30 from Rosslare and you are there until morning — SailRail is effectively a daytime proposition.
Two Welsh ports, one Irish terminal
Rosslare is the only Irish port offering two competing Wales crossings: Stena to Fishguard and Irish Ferries to Pembroke Dock, about thirty miles apart in Wales. Compare both before booking.
