This Privacy Policy explains how TransitEmerald (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles information when you visit transitemerald.com (the “Site”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the ePrivacy Directive.

1. Who we are

TransitEmerald is an independent public-transport information website for Ireland. For any privacy-related question you can reach us at info@transitemerald.com.

2. Information we collect

We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not intentionally collect personal information such as your name or address. When you use the Site, limited data may be collected automatically:

  • Usage data — pages visited, searches made on the Site, approximate location (country/region), referring website, and the date and time of your visit.
  • Device data — browser type, device type, operating system and screen size, used to display the Site correctly.
  • Cookie data — small files stored by your browser, described below.

3. Cookies & similar technologies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device. We and our partners use them to make the Site work, to understand how it is used, and to serve advertising. You can control cookies through your browser settings and through the consent options presented to you. For full detail see our Cookie Policy.

4. Advertising & Google AdSense

The Site is funded by advertising. We use Google AdSense, a third-party advertising service provided by Google, to display ads. In connection with this:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies (including the DoubleClick / DART cookie) enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • You can also opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu.

For more information on how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see Google’s Privacy & Terms.

5. Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting analytics tools to understand aggregate, anonymous trends — such as which routes are most searched — so we can improve the Site. This data is not used to identify individual visitors.

6. How we use information

  • To operate, maintain and improve the Site and its search features.
  • To display and measure advertising that keeps the Site free.
  • To understand traffic and usage trends in aggregate.
  • To detect, prevent and address technical issues, abuse or fraud.

7. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

Where GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent (for non-essential cookies and personalised advertising); our legitimate interests (to run and secure the Site and understand aggregate usage); and legal obligations where applicable. You may withdraw consent at any time.

8. Your rights

Under GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@transitemerald.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in Ireland, the Data Protection Commission, dataprotection.ie).

9. Third-party links

The Site links to operator and other external websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites; please review their policies separately.

10. Children

The Site is a general-audience information service and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top reflects the latest revision. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page.

12. Contact
